“The Fighter” – Keith Urban (Feat. Carrie Underwood)
Again, I’m doubling up on the new music on Boot Scootin’ Saturday Night. Odd enough, both singles I’ve shared on tonight’s show were produced by Dan Huff. (They’re also both male-female collaborations.)
I couldn’t pass up the new Kane Brown song for several reasons and with the Grammy’s tomorrow night, I thought we’d celebrate one of the most anticipated country performances of the night…
That of course being the performance from Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood as they debut their duet called, “The Fighter.”
It’s Urban’s fifth release from his Ripcord album and it’s no secret that he experimented with his sound quite a bit on this record. He told Rolling Stone, “It was a lot of searching, a lot of experimenting, and when you get to work with as many people as I did, you end up with a lot of stuff.”
Aside from his collaboration with Pitbull, (“Sun Don’t Let Me Down”) “The Fighter,” is probably one of the most electronic-poppy songs on the record.
Last Spring, when the album was released, I thought the song was a bit of a stretch. I like the song. I just didn’t see hot it would fit into radio rotation…even with Carrie Underwood on the track.
However, the song did have positive reaction on the charts as it debuted at No. 25 on the Hot Country Songs chart.
Now that it’s an official single and following Urban’s three consecutive No. 1 singles from Ripcord, I can’t imagine “The Fighter will reach anything less than No. 1. Especially with the powerhouse superstars on the track.
Catch the debut performance of the song tomorrow night during the 59th Annual Grammy Awards airing live at 8 PM EST on CBS.
Until then…check out the video here…
